The fourth generation modernized the Bronco's nose, cabin and powertrains. Electronic fuel injection spread across the engine range while familiar full-size utility remained.

The aerodynamic age begins

The 1987 Bronco adopted Ford’s smoother F-Series front end, standard rear-wheel ABS and fuel injection for the 300 inline six.

1988

The engine range goes all-EFI

For 1988 the 351 Windsor H.O. gained fuel injection, a Mazda five-speed manual arrived and transfer-case skid plates became standard.

Overdrive automatics take over

The 1990 Bronco phased out the three-speed C6 as AOD and electronically controlled E4OD overdrive automatics defined the range.

Silver Anniversary finale

The 1991 Bronco closed its fourth generation with a Currant Red Silver Anniversary edition, the nameplate's first leather upholstery and a sharply lower reported production total.
